Just arriving in dealerships, the Reinvented Hyundai i30 has big shoes to fill!

With the considerable success and longevity of the outgoing model, the release of Hyundai’s new PD i30 has been long awaited, and it does not disappoint. With upgraded engines, a new chassis and a great new look, the third generation i30 is ticking all the boxes.

Although pricing is still being finalised for Australian sales, we know that the new model will be offered with an entry level 2.0L direct injection petrol 4 cylinder engine replacing the existing 1.8L powerplant. Good for 120kW and 203Nm, the new 2L will be matched to a choice of six speed manual or automatic transmission.

Hyundai has also revised it’s existing 1.6L turbo-diesel for the new PD model. Exclusively matched to a 7spd DCT automatic, the 100kW and 300Nm diesel should be able to achieve close to 4.4L/100km!
New to the PD i30 lineup, is the very capable 1.6L turbocharged petrol 4 cylinder engine found in the impressive Elantra SR. The pick of the new i30 powertrains is rated at 150kW and 265Nm and will again be matched to the 7spd DCT gearbox including steering wheel paddles.

While the Australian version has not yet been extensively reviewed, the new chassis uses more than twice as much high-strength steel as the outgoing model, and even without the fine tuning for our roads the new PD model is considerably stronger on all fronts. The 1.6L petrol turbo variant(likely to use the SR badge) is fitted with the same strut front and independent rear end suspension as the larger Elantra and with the additional chassis reinforcement drives and handles like a much more expensive car.

If the external styling changes aren’t enough to convince you this is an All-New i30, the interior is sure to sway your mind with the European styling cues immediately evident. Finishings are great and new integrated Sat-nav, Apple Carplay and Android Auto are welcome additions. The new front seats are also one of the highlights of the ergonomic makeover.

Motoring.com.au: “the PD-series Hyundai i30 is the best Korean car yet.

CarAdvice.com.au: “The PD i30 will have the two Japanese companies(Toyota & Mazda) taking notice. It’s a more confident, resolved design that will have real driveway presence, and will come stacked with clever kit and lots of safety credentials.”
